Next-Generation Lincoln MKC To Be Called “Corsair”

Lincoln’s lineup contains a number of travel-themed names, such as Aviator, Navigator, and Nautilus. Up until now, the Lincoln MKC crossover has been the odd one out. A recent announcement from Lincoln might change that when the next-generation Lincoln MKC debuts sometime in 2020 with a new name — the Lincoln Corsair. While official word from the company says the name may yet change again before it debuts, but the Lincoln Corsair name has already been patented stateside.

The name change for the upcoming Lincoln Corsair points towards a new marketing strategy Ford Motor Co. has been implementing for its Lincoln division; the confusing MK nomenclature the brand has been using for over a decade will be fading out of style. Changing the Lincoln MKC model’s name to “Corsair” is the latest progress the automaker has made towards that goal. Plus, “Corsair” is the name of both a famous pirate ship and a WWII fighter plane.

Before the next-generation Lincoln MKC debuts with its shiny new name, a 2019 Lincoln MKC will come out as a last hurrah for the current model. It will sport a refreshed style including a new mesh grille and updated technology. The 2021 Lincoln Corsair will come to the market in 2020.
